Express Entry Draw 248 | 589 Invited in PNP Specific Draw

First PNP Specific Draw since March: Express Entry draw 248 issued 589 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of 691. This means that in order to have been selected for today’s draw, applicants need to first have a PNP nomination.

Each of Canada’s provinces and territories, except Quebec and Nunavut, operates its own PNP program with several streams. Altogether, there are more than 80 different provincial nominee programs! Today’s draw was the first draw of March and the fifth program-specific draw this year. A PNP nomination grants an additional 600 points to the applicant’s CRS score.

Today’s score cut-off of 691 means that applicants needed a minimum score of 91 points before receiving their PNP nomination in order to be eligible. Express Entry draws have had an unusual pattern this year. Draws typically have been taking place bi-weekly on Wednesday afternoons. However, in March weekly draws were held, with one being held on a Thursday.

There has also been an unusual pattern of all-program draws and program-specific draws. This makes it difficult to predict exactly when the next draw will take place and which type of draw it will be, however, they will likely develop a more concrete pattern as draws continue to take place.

Proof of Funds Recently Updated

The IRCC updated the amount you need to settle in Canada on May 2nd. Most economic immigration applications, including Express Entry applications, are required to show proof of means of financial support. Proof of funds is not required for Canadian Experience Class or for Express Entry candidates who have a valid job offer to work in Canada.

To remain eligible for Express Entry, candidates must update their profiles to reflect that they still have the necessary amount of settlement funds. Updating your profile doesn’t change the date and time that your application was received so your rank will remain the same if you’re in a tie-breaker situation.

How much money you will need will depend on the size of your family. To calculate the size of your family be sure to include yourself, your spouse or common-law partner, your dependent children, and your spouse or common-law partner’s dependent children.

You must include your spouse or common-law partner and their dependent children even if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents or if they are not coming with you to Canada. The IRCC updates this amount annually. It is based on 50% of the low-income cut-off totals.

What Is Express Entry and How Can I Apply?

Express Entry is a system used by the Canadian government to manage applications for Canadian permanent residency. Express Entry uses a point-based system, the CRS, to rank candidates’ profiles. The system manages three main programs:

  1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW);
  2. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST); and
  3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

Applying to Express Entry is a two-step procedure. The first step is to submit your profile with the required documents. Required documents usually consist of language test results, educational credentials and passport or travel documentation. After you submit a profile and receive an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence, you can submit your complete application for the IRCC to review.

Your complete application should include supporting documents such as reference letters, additional identity documents, police clearance certificates, and results of a medical examination.
